A while back, I visited a much-recommended restaurant in the south of Spain that I have frequented a lot over the years. It is a temple of good steaks and excellent wine to pair. However, I often fancy a beer as an aperitivo, something “para abrir boca”, as they say in Spanish, but I have always found the beer there most appalling. Revisiting a few years later and fed up with the incipient brew on draft, I queried the waitress if they had any craft beer. I was convinced such a trendy, upmarket meson with such an impressive selection of wines would have something to offer.
The waitress looked at me in an uninterested manner while repeating my question:
– Craft beer? No, no, we don’t carry that brand.
